We have evolved a great deal here at Ageless Remedies. Right now our goal to be the best medspa in the Athens area is our focus. This has always been inferred but experience provides better ways of trying to reach this.

One of the things I have always preached is to make your feelings known (to the right person...the owner). At one time we had an aesthetician who was so unhappy in life she gave the clients extra uncharged treatments and also bad-mouthed us as owners. This become apparent when the clients dealt with any other staff. Keep in mind that just because an aesthetician gives you one story, this may not be true. Some people are never happy; even when they are making the highest salary of the staff. If I had an experience, where the aesthetician was always having a "pity-party", I would be concerned. First of all...the esthetic service is supposed to bring you "up", be about you and your needs. Nobody needs to feel uneasy during a treatment.

If you are anxious that you did not get all parts of the service, please ask to talk to an owner. Remember...that we are not in the treatment room and do not know everything that goes on. Also unless we are aware there is a concern...we cannot address it. Now, as much as we want your service and look forward to you coming to us, we cannot make our services please everyone or give things free or we would not be in business. Also if you can get a service cheaper, we usually advise you to take advantage of that. We do continually provide an array of specials that are available for you to try services at cheaper prices.

Right now we have two additional part-time aestheticians that have brought with them superior training and great personalities. Elenora works Tuesday and Wednesday and Dawn is here Thursday though Saturday. They are highly motivated and conscious of providing top-notch treatment.

We respect our aestheticians and staff, and ask that you show them the same courteous attitude. One of the few free things we can give to each other at a time that is difficult economically is to smile and be openly cheerful. Pass it on, and you will feel a lot better when you do. I speak from experience. The days I am not up to par, I force myself to smile more and when I do, I find it makes me feel better. Do you know that there was a university study where psychologists had depressed people (on medication) keep their regimen but added periods of continually smiling? These people were able to drop their medication because the result of this habit of smiling activated a certain area of their brain. Now I am not advocating that anybody reduces or stops medication without a doctor's approval, but I am just passing on something I learned from Anthony Robbins, a highly sought after motivational speaker.

I have also learned from a podcast interview that one psychologist studying early life experiences to predict anti-social behavior found that most serial killers came from families that provided very rigid, anti-fun environments even if there was no history of child abuse. This psychologist was so impressed that he has a business which promotes "fun" as part of the business routine and parenting. Needless to say, I wish I had the chance to be part of his staff. But...at least I have another thing in my repetoire which can be used to project a better attitude personally.

Ageless Remedies in Athens Sun Tip Protection

In winter, many people put away their sunscreen. Actually, humans need more sunscreen during this season. It is true that the areas of exposed body surface may be less, but the face and hands and lips need protection as this is the time of the year when the sun's ray are most intense. UVA rays,which do not cause burning, do damage below the skin's surface leading to wrinkles, brown spots and skin cancers. Take a look at people who spend a lot of time in outdoor spots but neglect sun protection. They have more signs of premature aging with wrinkles and brown spots. Be sure you have a sunblock of at least 15 SPF it arms you with both UVA and UVB blockage.

Snow reflects sun worse than water so if you live in an area of snow accumulation or are a sports enthusiast on the slopes, don't forget to have and reapply sunblock. Actually sunblock is necessary for every season.

We also now know that if you really want protection, you need sunblock even in the house, more if you are exposed to sun through a number of windows. Windows let UVA rays in and depending on what side you occupy in the car you will notice that pigmentation or wrinkles predominate on the side you sit on. Besides sunblock with moisturizer, we have lasers and products that reduce sundamage.

Also it is necessary to take note of the part increased elevation plays in sun exposure. For every 1000 feet aboves sea-level, UVA damage increases 2%. Flying of course puts you way up in altitude, so one should slather on the sunblock (30 SPF) before you leave the gate.

This is a perfect time of the year to work on the pigmentation that has come to the surface of your skin which is the result of sun damage. Since I did a blog earlier on this same material, I have had questions which have led to this blog which explains some of the procedures in greater detail.

Here in Athens we have several ways to reduce or sometimes even eliminate those pigmentation spots that make you feel so self conscious. On the product side we have the Nuderm Obagi kit paired with tretinoin (Retina A) that is used in the morning and night to clear your complexion. This is a prescription grade product that works really well if you are committed to following the regimen.
On the treatment side we have chemical peels, microderms or a paring of the two in a chemibrasion series. This saves you the home regimen that the Nuderm kit requires.

We also offer the Alexandrite setting on the laser which will usually work even faster.

This is a perfect time of the year to work on the pigmentation that has come to the surface of your skin which is the result of sun damage.

Here in Athens we have the aggressive, quicker and more expensive route which includes series of the Cynosure Laser with the Alexandrite setting. This laser will remove your pigmentation over a series of treatments very quickly.

This is not painfree, however there is a air cooler you control to make he heating less evident. An added bonus will be some tightening of the skin.

If you want a less expensive route...you can combine microderms with chemical peels...We call these Chemibrasions and you purchase a series. Revision also has a Vitamin C lotion to aid in protecting the skin from the sun.

You also can use the Obagi Nuderm system which is a kit of prescriptive lotions with an added tretinoin (Retina A product) which you do over several weeks and use in the morning and before you go to bed
